If it is not "sticking" after you quit and reopen Word, that suggests a problem with your Word preference file not updating and that may need to be slapped and told to pay attention. There isn't a universal setting for all documents. Word documents reopen at the same View settings that were in place the last time editing changes made to the document were saved.
There has to be some type of action taken to 'dirty' the document, even if it's just to type a space, then delete it but don't use Undo John Korchok Volunteer Moderator.
